1. Southwest Companion Pass
The Southwest Companion Pass is one of the most valuable travel perks available. To earn it, accumulate 135,000 Southwest points, which unlocks the pass for the rest of the current year and all of the following year. This pass allows a designated companion to fly with you for free (excluding taxes and fees) on every Southwest flight.
Our Experience:
Heather and I each earned the Companion Pass by applying for one Southwest Business Credit Card and one personal Southwest card each. We assigned one of our kids as our companions, allowing our family to fly for free (excluding fees) anywhere Southwest operates for 1.5 years. On top of that, we still had 150,000 Southwest points to use!

The Alaska companion fare has not been beneficial. In order to use it you have to purchase the first flight in cash, and we have found it more cost effective to purchase all our flights with points.
